What Causes Heart Disease?

Heart with StethescopeWhat causes heart disease? Well, as the saying goes, "You are what you eat," and the unfortunate fact is that most people don't really have all the information they need to make informed decisions about their diets in order to keep their hearts healthy.

Coronary artery disease is the most common type of heart disease and the leading cause of death in the United States. It is a lifestyle disease that is responsible for twice as many deaths each year as deaths from cancer.

What the conventional medical establishment is not telling us, is that corornary disease is preventable and reversible!

Heart Disease and Plaque

Heart Disease Plaque Build-UpThe main cause of heart disease is the build-up of plaque inside the arteries and along the arterial walls of the heart.

Over time this plaque can cause the artery to become entirely blocked, preventing the supply of blood to the heart tissue.

In many instances, when plaque does not completely block an artery, it can still be dangerous because small pieces of plaque can break off, move through the blood stream and block other arteries. When this occurs in the brain it causes a stroke.

So what causes the plaque to build up? The answer is actually pretty obvious, it's just that no one seems to want to really acknowledge it. True, animal fats cause higher cholesterol levels that can increase plaque development, but the bottom line is whether they are lean or fat, excessive consuption of animal proteins is actually what causes heart disease.

What the Research Says

Study after study has shown that people who eat little or no animal products have a much lower incidence of heart disease. There are also many studies that show how people with heart disease have been able to reverse it by removing animal products from their diets and increasing the amount of vegetables (especially raw) that they eat.

Problems with Treatments

One of the other big secrets is how many problems are caused by conventional treatments. Lipid lowering medications have some serious side effects, and over the last decade, a quarter of a million people died from cardiac intervention procedures. And that number doesn't actually include the people who died from infections, complications and strokes after surgery.

Heart disease costs over a quarter of a trillion dollars each year. One of the main reasons that it is so expensive is that the benefit of medical intervention procedures tends to erode over time and many patients have to have repeated interventions because they have not lowered their consumption of animal products.

The solution is obvious, simple, and inexpensive. If what causes heart disease is excess consumption of animal products, then you might want to follow President Bill Clinton's example and consider becoming a vegan. A plant based diet grounded in solid vegan nutrition principles can help to restore health, promote weight loss, and prevent future cardiace issues.
